A couple of comments; i used to run AVG 8.x Free Edition on my Vista Home Premium, and later switched to Avast Home Edition (free) and the latter is much much better in terms of resource usage as well as performance.

For defrag, I've been using Diskeeper 2009 Professional (2008 pro previously) and it works really nicely on Vista. Useful features like MFT defrag, system file defrag, low resource usage, VSS protection (good on Vista), i faast file optimization/sequencing as well as fully automatic operation. It's much faster than the slow-as-a-snail Vista defragger, so the drives dont grind for hours.

As for the browser, i am a die-hard Opera fan :) so nothing else will do for me. Lean, fast, secure and highly customizable right out of the box!

Highly recommend the above applications.
